The Community Chest Building was donated to the Chest in 1969 by the founder of Publishers Clearing House and a noted philanthropist Harold E. Mertz.  For over 40 years, the Chest has maintained and improved this building for the benefit of the Port Washington community.

The Community Chest takes up a small space in the building.  We maintain a large community meeting room that is available for use by other organizations in Port Washington for their meetings. Tenants can use this building with no charges. Other Port Washington non-profit organizations can use it for a nominal fee of $50.

The primary use of The Community Chest building at 382 Main Street is to provide affordable leased space for other non-profit organizations. This building is managed by The Chest and a reserve fund in maintained to cover estimated future maintenance costs.

Currently the following non-profit organizations are leasing space in this building.

  • EAC
  • Residents for a More Beautiful Port Washington
  • EOC of Nassau County
  • Twin Pines Co-op
  • Long Island Traditions
  • Accelerated Childhood Education
