Citizen of the Year Awards
The Community Chest of Port Washington established the Citizen of the Year award in 1970 to honor individuals and organizations that have demonstrated outstanding volunteer service and contributions to the community. In its first year, the award was given to Harold E. Mertz, the founder of Publishers Clearing House and a noted philanthropist who donated the building at 382 Main Street to the Community Chest in 1969. T and Lee Aschenbrenner are the recipients of the 35th Citizen of the Year Award.

The Annual Community Chest Kayak Run was held on
August 2, 2008. Over 65 registrants enjoyed traversing the 5 mile course. Raffle prizes were awarded at the end, including a Kayak donated by Atlantic Outfitters.
