THE LEGACY OF THE COVID RELIEF FUND & THE LAUNCH OF PORT PROVIDES, POWERED BY THE NICHOLAS CENTER

The COVID-19 pandemic brought the persistent underlying needs of vulnerable community members into sharp focus. The Nicholas Center (TNC) and their “Navigators” are committed to continuing the work they began during the height of the pandemic to help address these needs.

TNC has launched Port Provides, Powered by The Nicholas Center to continue the Port Pantry Supply (PPS) program, an incredibly successful initiative and product of the Community Chest’s COVID-19 Relief Fund. This program acts as an emergency supply chain to provide daily necessities to over 1,400 Port Washington men, women, children, infants, and senior citizens. These individuals, living at or below the poverty line, would not otherwise have their basic needs met. The role of Nicholas Center participants is to order, organize and deliver diapers in all sizes, wipes, feminine hygiene products, soap, laundry detergent, dishwashing liquid, toothpaste and brushes, paper towels, and toilet paper to the participating local food and personal care pantries in Port.

TNC participants are all adults with Autism. The Port Provides initiative strives to integrate adults with autism into our community in fulfilling ways, giving them a sense of accomplishment and pride through their efforts as they participate in a program that brings direct assistance to their neighbors in need.

To support their fundraising efforts the Community Chest will make a donation to the Nicholas Center, and we encourage all of those who so generously helped our community during the pandemic, to donate to them in support of this new initiative.
